Protect your investment without breaking the bank
Warranty Tips, Info & FAQs
Extend the life of your vehicle by reducing your out-of-pocket costs.
Factory warranties are great. But since most mechanical and electrical failures happen after they’ve expired, you may wind up paying for expensive and unexpected repairs. Our Mechanical Breakdown Coverage offers four levels of affordable options to help you protect your pocketbook against costly mechanical and electrical repairs.
4 Ways to Make Sure You're Covered
So you just bought a new car. Or maybe it’s just new to you. Either way, congratulations! Whether you scrimped and saved or secured financing for your purchase, having a vehicle is something to celebrate.
It doesn’t matter if your car’s racked up 20 miles or 20,000, you’re going to have to fix something sometime. If you buy a new car, that time may not come until after your warranty expires. If you buy a used car, you may be on the hook for repairs from the get go. And at some point, you may find yourself making car payments and repair payments at the same time. Here are some tips to cover your chassis.
1. Don’t skimp on insurance.
Whether your car gets wrecked or stolen, having back up to help you pay off your loan and qualify for a new one is never a bad idea. Plus in many states, it’s the law. If money’s tight, you can save money by skipping collision insurance. If you have an older car, you may not miss it, and you’ll be grateful for the rock bottom monthly premiums.
2. Car care is critical.
Staying up-to-date on routine maintenance can help you prevent, or at least delay, breakdowns and repairs. So check that oil. Change those filters. Rotate those tires and change them when they become damaged and worn. It’ll save you money, and it could save your life.
3. Gap coverage is good thinking.
Cars are expensive. So expensive, in fact, that at some point you may owe more on your loan than your car is worth. Get gap coverage to ensure that if you get in a wreck, you’ll have enough to pay off your loan no matter the current price on the car.
4. Say yes to warranties.
New or used — if your car comes with a warranty, buy it. Accidents happen. If one happens to you, a warranty will protect you from owing money on a car you can’t drive.

Let me start by saying, Lisa is fantastic! I purchased a new vehicle and got talked into purchasing all kinds of things I didn’t need which caused my payment to go up tremendously. The dealer refused to cancel all the extras even though it was an option per the paperwork. Lisa at United Texas CU was able to assist me in getting everything canceled and money returned. I refinanced with UTCU and was very satisfied with how easy the process was. They were able to accommodate virtually and have local offices to work with. Thank you Lisa Rakus for the fantastic work and time you took to help me.
Hi Christina - Thanks so much for letting us know about your recent experience with Lisa at our Medical Center Branch. We appreciate your choice to finance your auto with us and we're happy we were able to help you get your money back on the extras. Thanks again for being a member and enjoy your new ride! -Karla :)
Excellent Customer Service. My credit score was higher with United Texas which put me in a better interest rate category. The extended warranty offered is incredible and offers an even lower interest rate. That for me was a major selling point.
