3 Unexpected Tips for Purchasing Insurance
Buying an insurance policy? There are a few things the insurance companies might not want you to know. Get educated on these three things first, to make sure you get the best deal.
1. You can use a monitor to lower car insurance
Most insurance companies, even if they don’t let you know right away, will reward you for safer driving. You can get a monitor installed (for free) on your car that measures your speed, traffic observance, and how you react to other cars. Be sure to ask your insurance agent about this potential discount.
2. Your location matters
The safety of your general area and neighborhood factors big into home insurance costs. Make sure you tell your agent about any safety wins, including gates, locks, and home security systems. Even small things like your proximity to the fire station can factor in.
3. Use the insurance buyer’s guide
Your state’s insurance department actually publishes an insurance buyer’s guide that’s free to the public. These guides often include sample prices so you can comparison shop before you ever talk to an agent. It will save you a lot of time and help you find a better deal.

What is acceptable insurance?
In order to verify that you have the proper comprehensive and collision coverage, we need you to provide us with information from your insurance policy, including the amount of your deductible and the name of the lien holder.
Insurance ID cards are not acceptable as proof of insurance.

What happens if I do not submit proof of insurance?
Please note that if we do not receive evidence of insurance meeting our requirements, collateral protection insurance (CPI) may be issued through the credit union’s insurance program and your monthly loan payment will be adjusted accordingly. The coverages afforded by CPI are primarily to protect the credit union’s interest. CPI will not satisfy the requirements of any financial responsibility law, nor does it provide liability coverage.
Insurance ID cards are not acceptable as proof of insurance.
