3 Ways Teens Can Prepare for the Future Job Market
We are entering a new job market. The skills that will be most needed are not the skills of yesterday. If you have extra time this summer, here are a few things you can work on to help prepare you for the future:
1. Learn a second language
In our global economy, a second language not only looks great on a resume, it’s invaluable on the job. If you’re interested in a career in anything from business to health care, a second language gives you a huge edge. Try downloading apps like Duolingo or Mindsnacks to practice while you’re out of school.
2. Practice coding
Coding might seem like a college-level skill, but in reality, it’s never too early to learn the basic principles. Knowing how to code opens you up to a wealth of in-demand jobs in the technology industry. You can look for teen coding camps in your area, or try free lesson sites like Code Academy.
3. Improve your writing skills
No matter what job you choose, great writing tends to come in handy. You can use it for e-mails, proposals, briefs, reports, and stellar presentations. Try starting a blog this summer to practice writing for an audience, or work on a short story or poem to polish your prose.

*APY = Annual Percentage Yield. APY is accurate as of February 1, 2023, and may change after the account is opened. Dividends are calculated on the daily balance during the dividend period and paid to the account monthly. Fees or other conditions could reduce the earnings on the account. Payment of all dividends is subject to the availability of earnings.
Certificates & IRA Certificates
|3.82% APY*||6 months|
|4.07% APY*||12 months|
|4.59% APY*||15 months|
|2.78% APY*||24 months|
|2.27% APY*||36 months|
|2.53% APY*||48 months|
|2.53% APY*||60 months|
*APY = Annual Percentage Yield. APY offered the period of February 1 - 28, 2023. The minimum balance to earn the advertised APY is $25,000 for a 15-month term and $500 for all other Certificate terms. A penalty will be imposed for early withdrawal. A withdrawal of all or any portion of the principal prior to maturity will cause automatic termination of the Certificate Account. For a Certificate with a term of one year or less, the penalty will be equal to 30 days' worth of dividends, whether earned or unearned, which could reduce the principal balance of the Certificate. For a Certificate with a term over one year but less than three years, the penalty will be equal to 60 days' worth of dividends, whether earned or unearned, which could reduce the principal balance of the Certificate. For a Certificate with a term of three years or more, the penalty will be equal to 90 days' worth of dividends, whether earned or unearned, which could reduce the principal balance of the Certificate.
